Paper 1 Content Section A - Reading Literary Fiction: 40 marks, 1hrQ1: Find and write down four things from lines x-y - 4 marks Q2: Analyse how language is used for effect in a short section of the extract - 8 marks PQAL Q3: Analyse how structure is used to convey the writer's ideas. Paper 2 Content Section A - Reading Literary Non- Fiction: 40 marks, 1hr Answer all 4 questions Q1: Read lines x-y from source A and choose four statements that are true from a selection of eight - 4 marks Q2: Read BOTH sources and summarise similarities or differences in the material on a given topic - 8 marks You could be asked what is the same or different about the content. SQI Overall, what the quotes together suggest - link back to question. Q3: Read lines x-y. Analyse how language is used to present a given focus - 12 marks PQAL Q4: The whole of BOTH sources. Compare how the writers convey their viewpoints - 16 marks. This means that you compare methods used to present the point of view expressed in the texts. PQAL
Section B - Point of View Writing: 40 marks (24 content, 16 accuracy), 45mins Q5: The task will require you to argue, persuade, inform or explain. There is no choice. You have to present your point of view in a convincing way and demonstrate a range of writing skills. You need to convince and write fluently, using a range of sophisticated vocabulary choices. Use some persuasive methods, such as rhetorical question, pattern of three etc. You must ensure that you match your writing to Purpose, Audience and Form to meet the requirements of the task. Remember to vary paragraph and sentence lengths. Vary sentence beginnings. Use a range of punctuation. CHECK your accuracy as accuracy counts for 20% of the overall grade for English language. |
