Continuous Professional Development and Formation

At St Thomas More we value the continued development and learning of our staff. Our Continuous Professional Development and Formation programme allows staff to continue with training needs throughout the year.  Formation helps to develop our faith and grow our gifts and talents that we bring to the school.  Staff are encouraged to continue their training using external providers.  We currently have staff who are completing or who have just completed the following courses:

  • NPQH (National Professional Qualification for Headship)
  • NPQSL (National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership)
  • NPQML (National Professional Qualification for Middle Leadership)
  • NPQLTD (National Professional Qualification for Leading Teacher Development)
  • CMLP (Catholic Middle Leadership Programme)
  • NQT  (Newly Qualified Teacher)
  • ECT (Early Career Teachers)
  • ITT (Initial Teacher Trainees)

Staff also access courses such as First Aid, Health and Safety, Networking Meetings, Cheshire East Hub Groups,  Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND), Wellbeing, Exam Board Training and Specific Departmental Subject Training.

During the school partial closure in summer 2020, staff were able to be part of free online training from many different providers and choose bespoke courses to suit their interests and needs.

Staff at St Thomas More have a full calendar of CPDF throughout the year.  We train each Wednesday from 3:30pm - 4:50pm where bespoke needs to our school are put together, mostly using our own staff expertise and sharing across departments.  Leadership groups also meet for bespoke training, and all teaching staff are part of a Leadership Team.  These groups are split into the following:

  • Curriculum Leaders
  • Progress Leaders
  • Action Research Teams

All CPDF is valued and our staff thrive on working together in teams and moving forward, sharing ideas for development.
